Safeguarding Children Policy

Little Potters will ensure that:

The welfare of the child is paramount.

  • All children, whatever their age, culture, disability, gender, language, racial origin, religious beliefs and/ or sexual identity, have the right to be protected from harm.
  • All suspicions and allegations of abuse will be taken seriously and responded to swiftly and appropriately.
  • All staff (paid/ unpaid) working in the organisation are responsible for reporting concerns to Melanie Henshaw, and child protection agencies are contacted without delay.
  • Ofsted are informed of any allegations of serious harm or abuse by any person living, working, or looking after children at the premises
  • No person without a DBS check will be left alone with children.

Managing Children’s Behaviour

We aim to keep children active and developmentally challenged to avoid a child being bored, which is a significant cause of disruptive behaviour. Helpful and considerate behaviour is positively encouraged and rewarded.

We at Little Potters feel that corporal punishment and humiliation are unacceptable at the nursery and would lead to instant dismissal. Age-appropriate behaviour plans are displayed in group rooms; we are happy to offer strategies and advice if you are struggling with aspects of behaviour.

Bullying is when someone deliberately sets out to hurt, threaten or frighten someone. At Little Potters, bullying is not tolerated.

Equal Opportunity

Equality of opportunity requires that everyone has an equal chance to develop themselves to their full potential and be safe and free from harm. Consequently, equality of opportunity implies that:

  • Equality of access exists for all
  • Social inclusion exists for all
  • Life choices are widened, not restricted
  • Talents are fostered, not suppressed
  • No one experiences disadvantage or discrimination
  • Stereotypes are challenged
  • All forms of bullying and harassment are condemned and challenged
  • Change is managed for the benefit of all
  • Individual and community needs are responded to in a sympathetic and imaginative manner
  • Individuals and groups are allocated appropriate levels of support to ensure that their potential is fulfilled
  • The principle of equity applies.
